The latest round of disputes between Apple and Samsung looks to be heading towards an Apple victory. According to FOSS Patents, the Federal Patent Court in Germany has invalidated what Samsung had deemed an essential patent for the UMTS 3G standard. Basically, the German court is planning to rule in favor of Apple over allegations that Samsung copied Apple for 7 of their devices.
Apple said that these seven devices - the Samsung Galaxy S, Samsung Galaxy S Plus, Samsung Galaxy S2, Samsung Galaxy Ace, Samsung Galaxy R, Samsung Galaxy Wave M, and Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 4.0 – exploit Apple’s reputation by creating “competitive harm” by confusing users. These devices aren’t even available to consumers anymore, but that didn’t stop Apple from filing, and apparently winning.
